On December 22nd, 2012, we lost James Brown’s Soulsister #1, the First Lady of Funk, Ms Marva Whitney - a great loss for all lovers of Soul and Funk music. Midnight Soulstice co-host DJ Pari knew Ms Whitney better than most in the music business. For seven years, he was her personal manager, booking agent and the co-producer of her last album “I am what I am.” For tonight’s show, Pari tapped into our archives and dug out a Marva Whitney special that we previously aired in 2009, which features most of her hits and some unreleased material from her legendary “I sing Soul album.” But most importantly, you’ll get to listen to Marva’s story - told by herself, as she joined us on this particular episode. We hope that this tribute will help to keep Marva Whitney’s legacy alive because just like her mentor James Brown, her music will be here always.
